Why Wellness Care
People don't always understand why it's so important to maintain their wellness care after completing active treatment. Here, we address a few of the questions and concerns you might have and maybe clarify for you why we feel it's so important for your health and well-being...
“I feel great, Doc! You fixed me! I don’t need to come in anymore, right?”
It’s not uncommon for people to think that once they feel better–their back pain is gone or headaches aren’t coming back, etc–that they’re all done with chiropractic care. That’s totally understandable… but it’s not quite the case.
Wellness care is about maintaining all those benefits you received through your active treatment with us. Through wellness care, we check in on you once or twice a month and correct all those little imbalances you’ve accrued since we last saw you so that you can STAY pain free, so that your nervous system can continue to function well for you.
You don’t wait until you have a cavity to brush your teeth, right? You don’t wait until your engine light comes on (hopefully) to change the oil in your car. It’s like that with your spine. Once you start feeling pain from misalignments in your spine, optimal nerve function may already be decreased by up to 40 percent!
“But I don’t want to pay to come in if I feel fine!”
We totally get it. Nobody wants to pay money for things they don’t feel like they need. But in the long run, maintaining your chiropractic wellness care will actually save you money on healthcare costs. Maintaining regular chiropractic care can actually save you anywhere from 20 to 40 percent on healthcare costs in the course of a year, and even reduce your pharmaceutical expenses by up to 85 percent!
To stick with our previous analogies, do you get your teeth cleaned on a regular basis, or do you wait until you have a toothache? Would you rather get your oil changed regularly in your car, or wait until you have to replace your engine or buy a new car? These maintenance strategies save you money in the long run. And who doesn't want to save money?
“I’ll just call when I feel like I need to come in.”
Again, we totally get that. You have a full life and don’t want to commit to something ahead of time. But committing to your own wellness is an important form of self-care. You are making sure you set aside time just once or twice a month to keep your nervous system functioning well and keep your body feeling good. You don’t want to let three or six months or a year go by before you realize you got busy, didn’t prioritize your wellness, and now you’re really feeling it. If you’re done with active treatment, just schedule those regular wellness appointments, put them on your calendar, and make YOU a priority. Your body will thank you.
